Thought for the Day  (Click to reveal)

First you must learn to control your self. The rest follows. Blessed is he who knows himself and commands himself, for the world is his and love and happiness and peace walk with him wherever he goes.

Lambda to Host First SAVORlife Event

Hide/Show Details

Join us Sunday, March 28 after the noon meeting for a culinary treat. Lambda will be hosting the first SAVORlife event at the club, a brunch prepared by Chef Andrew.

The event, which runs from 1:30 to 4:00 pm, raises money for Aunt Rita's Foundation. The foundation helps fund 19 HIV/AIDS services organizations, including Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS (formerly Body Positive), Phoenix Shanti Group, Ebony House and HIV Care Directions.

You can register online here. The minimum donation is $25, but this is a fundraiser, so guests are encouraged to dig deep to help men and women affected by or infected with HIV. As you are probably aware, many addicts and alcoholics are HIV-positive, so this is a great way to support your brothers and sister in recovery.

The menu will be announced shortly. You can pay online with a credit or debit card, or bring cash or checks to the event. Guests are also encouraged to donate toward the cost of renting the room from Lambda, so that all of the money goes directly to Aunt Rita's.

Guests who donate $25 or more are also invited to the Sugar and Champagne Soirée at the Phoenix Art Museum.

We hope to see you March 28.

Opportunities to Serve on Lambda Board

Hide/Show Details

Three vacancies have opened up on the Lambda Board of Directors, and we are looking for people with more than 2 years of recovery to fill those positions. Those in the positions currently have had to step down for various reasons.

The positions open are Activities Director, Member at Large and Building Maintenance. If you have experience in any of these areas and are willing to make a two-year commitment to serve in that capacity, we would like to talk to you. The positions are open immediately.

Please use the contact form on this site to express interest, or speak personally with a Board member, if you are interested.

"Positive Living" Meeting Goes Dark

Hide/Show Details

Due to a lack of attendance at Monday night's "Positive Living" meeting (NA), the meeting has been cancelled. The meeting had been in existence since 2006 and was originally housed at Body Positive.

The Friday night NA meeting at Lambda, "Progress Not Perfection," is also in danger of going dark due to lack of attendance. If anyone is interested in saving the Friday night meeting, they should start attending the meeting soon. Otherwise, the group consensus will probably be to cancel that meeting as well.

"Constant Contact" Comes to Lambda

Hide/Show Details

Lambda has upgraded its communications with our members by introducing the popular Constant Contact "email blast" format to our members. Rather than receiving a PDF, members will receive a professionally formatted e-newsletter.

The new format will allow us to track what interests our members, so that we may better serve them. The first blast will be sent out later this month.

If you do not receive a blast by the end of January, please enter your email address in the "widget" on the left.

Need a Meeting? There's an App for That!

Hide/Show Details

Although we can't be found in the iTunes App Store, you can now check the meeting schedule and call our help line by using your iPhone, iPod Touch, Palm or Blackberry.

The mobile app is new, but you should be able to use your mobile device and be directed immediately to our mobile site.

If you are not, just go to m.phxlambda.org. If you have problems with the app on your mobile device, please let me know by using the contact form.

The Exchange, Now Open

Hide/Show Details

The Exchange, Lambda Phoenix Center's online classified section, is now open. Please feel free to post (appropriately) your items for sale, rooms for rent, jobs sought, professional services, etc. All inappropriate posts will be removed immediately. The Exchange is a new service to our members. It is free throughout the rest of this year. Starting January 1, there will be a fee to post in most categories.

We hope you will patronize The Exchange, and that it will help you connect with others in recovery.
