Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
On Monday July 7, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence donated a check for $716. The donation came from the Sister's fundraising efforts to help Lambda. One of the Sisters said they had been aware of Lambda's purpose and felt that was an organization that deserved to have some fundraising done on behalf of it. The donation came as a wonderful surprise to the Board. A statement regarding the donation read: "The Grand Canyon Sisters realize that many of the local charitable organizations can be sorely lacking in financial support that larger ones may be able to garner. Lambda Phoenix Center came to their attention last year when it was announced they would be moving to a new location that needed some work. Since that time, the Sisters tried to find the perfect fundraising mechanism for bringing in a good sum of money to help offset some of those building and maintenance costs that often plague organizations such as LPC. Big Hat Bingo at Icepics Videobar provided just such an opportunity. Held every Monday at 8pm, Big Hat Bingo has a faithful following and is growing. Each month a different beneficiary is chosen, and the month of June was dedicated to raising funds specifically for Lambda Phoenix Center. Added to the proceeds from Big Hat Bingo was a donation from the Sisters Charities, enabling them to make a donation of over $700."
According to the statement, the Grand Canyon Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence "are part of a world-wide order of 21st-century nuns whose calling is to stamp out stigmatic guilt and promulgate universal joy. To achieve these goals, the Sisters are involved in education, outreach and supportive fundraising. Since the founding of the house in 2007, the Grand Canyon Sisters have helped raise awareness and funds for such organizations as Lambda Phoenix Center, Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS (formerly Body Positive), Aunt Rita's Foundation, Altered Tails, and many others.
